FROM LAKE CHAMPLAIN BASIN PROGRAM FOR A COMMUNITY GENERATED MOVIE
Swanton, VT (January
_ 2019) The Swanton Arts Council (SAC) is excited to announce that
the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) Executive Committee has approved $4,000
for a 2019 Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership (CVNHP) Local
Heritage Grant for the creation of a community generated original film to be
titled “The Year of the Salmon”.
The goal of
this project is to bring together youth and life-long learners to produce an
original community generated film entitled “The Year of the Salmon.” The script will be developed during a
day-long writing slam and incorporate facts provided by the Missisquoi National
Wildlife Refuge with fictional characters to tell a story that highlights our
natural heritage. Filmed at the Refuge,
this project will provide learning opportunities in writing, acting, filming,
and editing while the information on our natural resources and conservation
challenges are incorporated into a completed 15-45 minute movie.
“This
project would not be possible without the support of Northwest Access TV, the
Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge and the talented writers, actors and
videographers in the Swanton community” Judy Paxman, SAC Executive
Director
The
CVNHP/LCBP awards grants through a competitive application and review process
for local endeavors that involve active participation from youth and students
in the research and discovery of the cultural and/or natural heritage
associated with their community, and the creation of new artistic expressions,
or interpretation of those topics utilizing fresh perspectives and/or new
technology.
Anyone
interested in participating in the creation of this movie should contact Judy
